"Novelty & Risk" Wool & Copper 12" x 24" I enjoy reading about creativity. Creative people have a common personality trait: problem finding behavior. They look for problems to solve. With any creative process, there are the elements of novelty (creating something new) and the risk (testing, rejecting, failure, etc.). This piece, for me, involved the novelty of copper mixed with wool. The risk is people simply not 'getting it'. I was taken back by a few quilters who told me this piece is a quilt. To art quilters, the definition of a quilt is 2 or 3 layers bound together. It didn't matter that the layers were copper. Hmmm...This is a quilt. On the other hand .... some quilters would think this is a risky novelty. Copyright Jan Dale Koutsky |
