Mixed Media Artist, Award Winning Author & Illustrator, and Art Faculty at South Seattle Community College

Resume:

I have been showing, selling and obtaining commissions through ArtsWest Gallery in Seattle for quite a few years.  I am currently seeking to expand my audience through further gallery representation for my work. I was recently juried in to the Northwest Designer Craftsmen organization.

I am a member of the Art faculty at South Seattle Community college.  I have been teaching there for over 30 years. I currently teach courses in Digital Fine Art.  I am also an award winning author and illustrator.

Collaborative Work:
I have organized and participated in several groups over the years for artists to work together collaboratively.  I am usually always involved in some sort of project with other artists.  I also help coordinate students at SSCC to work collaboratively together.   I find the collaborative process to be very rewarding.

Community Work:
I live and work in the West Seattle community both as a professional artist and art faculty at South Seattle Community College.  This combination affords me opportunities to become involved in the West Seattle Community.  I have:

    • Served on the board of the West Seattle Cultural Society (now ArtsWest)
    • Administered a public sculpture project for the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce
    • Served as co-chair of the ArtsWest Artists Associates
    • Helped place numerous students in internships
    • Assisted in serving as a juror for numerous community shows and events
    • Serve on the SSCC Gallery Committee – jury shows, set policy, etc.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a member of the Art Faculty at South Seattle Community College since 1978.  While a member of the Art department, I have been responsible for:

    • Planning & implementing art department schedule
    • Assisting in the search & hiring of new faculty, mentoring new faculty
    • Serve on the campus gallery committee – jury, organize, hang shows, etc.
    • Coordinating student scholarship competitions
    • Maintain a budget for studios, ordering supplies, overseeing maintenance, etc.
    • Received several federal grants to implement digital fine arts curriculum

Faculty Development:
The Seattle Community College District has a strong Faculty Development Program. Through this program I have been able to remain current with several new technologies such as pod casting, web site building, digital video & animation, gizmo, blogs, etc.

Grants:
Title III Federal Grant to learn new digital mediums, design & implement new curriculum
Several Faculty Development Grants from the Seattle Com. College District to learn new technology
Received a “Fund for Excellence Grant” for work done with the West Seattle Community
