My pieces begin with choosing a color palette, followed closely by a sense of the space I want to capture. I begin by spraying a light coat of acrylic paint with a mouth atomizer. This gives me a little texture to start the composition. Next, I switch to colored pencils and begin layering in color, light tones to dark. I enjoy being able to blend in subtle color changes as I work. The angled strokes gives the work texture, and the mark of the artist’s hand. I finish up with a couple coats of fixative.
I work with only light fast pigmented colored pencils on archival paper. All framing materials are archival, including the UV filtering plexiglass.
